Ben Hollow lifts shield

Locking Park Reserves win Davis Shield!

Locking Park won the Davis Shield with a hard fought victory over a tough Uphill Castle team.

Uphill started the game well, with their fluid front three causing the Park defence problems. After Park weathered the early storm, they started to get a grip on the game and almost took the lead after a long range Kyle Hobden shot hit the corner of post and bar.

The game was fairly even and open, with Uphill failing to create any clear cut chances. Park took the lead after 30 minutes when Rob Long tried to shoot but was thwarted, and the ball landed with Matty Hollow who smashed the ball home from close range. 1-0 to Park at half time.

Park extended their lead five minutes into the second half when a superb Chris Green ball sent Matty Hollow away again, and he went through one on one with the keeper and coolly slotted the ball underneath him for his second of the game.

Uphill had to come out and be more attacking and this made the game very end to end, exciting, but nerve-racking for Park. Uphill got a goal back with 25 minutes to play to set up a grandstand finish. Park dug deep and defended magnificently, with Mike Bollard and Rob Long holding firm in front of the park defence of Dave Bordon, Jon Rowsell, Ben Hollow, Lyndon Cook and Mike Page.

Dan Cook was having his best game of the season but had to come off injured and it left Park restricted to the odd counter attack. They tried to get the killer third goal and hit the post through Chris Green and the bar from Matty Hollow, but couldn’t get the goal to put the game safe.

Uphill exerted more pressure through a number of late corners, but couldn’t get the equaliser, and Park were mightily relieved to hear the final whistle. A fantastic contribution from all concerned, including the Park subs of Liam Page, Darrell Capille and Jordan New, who all made vital contributions, as well as unused sub Paul Sharp who supported the lads strongly from the side.

Man of the match went to Lyndon Cook for a magnificent man marking job on the Uphill danger man Matt Bebber who never got a sniff.
